Keswick Methodist Church

Keswick Methodist Church was founded in 1863 and Christians have worshipped on the site for over 150 years. In 2017, the church embarked on Vision 21, an ambitious project to provide flexible worship spaces along with accessible spaces for community use.

Vision 21

The brief included two large areas, separated by a folding partition which could be used as one space, or two independent spaces simultaneously. The audio and visual systems were designed to provide the client with maximum flexibility throughout the spaces.

In the worship space, the audio system is capable of being operated in any seating orientation with a Yamaha MTX system handling the audio processing. An Allen & Heath digital mixer looks after 16 audio inputs from various sources including fixed microphones, wireless microphones and AV inputs. When the folding partition is open, Ohm speakers are appropriately time-aligned down the room to provide a clear sound.

Two NEC projectors were installed onto screens in each room and then flat panel LG displays on mobile floor stands were provided for use in different seating orientations. HD visual signals are distributed via a CYP HDBaseT transmission system which feeds the displays. Inputs are provided to allow laptops to be connected in 4 separate locations around the room.

A fixed PC was provided within the main AV control desk, along side a Blu-Ray player and Zionworx presentation software which is used to display media during services. A remote controlled camera can be focused by an operator to put live images onto the screens and content can be displayed wirelessly from tablets and mobile phones.

Wi-Fi networks were provided throughout the building to provide control of the AV systems and guest internet access to building users.

Equipment installed includes:

  • Ohm Speakers
  • Allen & Heath Digital mixing consoles
  • Yamaha Audio Processing
  • Sennheiser Radio Mics
  • Shure Microphones
  • NEC Projectors
  • CYP HDBaseT distribution
  • LG Screens
  • Unicol Brackets

The project required close liaison with the architect, main contractor and other sub-contractors for the building works to ensure that the AV installation integrated seamlessly into the construction programme.
